Fashion Awards & tropical poppin' hues

Hey guys the bank holiday is here! YEOW! Let me first say that for those of you waiting for details of my competition with Finns Corner, I had to postpone it until early next week. I am happy to announce that a renowned Cork sportsman and fellow blogger has come on board to help me launch it. I am delighted to say that I have been given a fashion ambassador role by Finns Sports and I will have all the details on my blog as soon as they're finalised!

It's been a pretty hectic week, as I search job vacancies for work and also try to deal with managing my blog. On Wednesday I got an exciting invitation from Mary Cashmen to attend the Mallow College of Design and Tailoring graduation and award show last night in Silversprings. The college itself has been in operation since 1988 and has seen some incredibly talented designers and celebrity students such as Kellie Forde from Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model 2012, through it's doors. The annual event showcases the design final work of both part and full tine students from first trough to third years. Check out their website: http://www.mallowfashioncollege.com/

I had a wardrobe crisis the day of as I have misplaced my leather shorts since returning from Portugal and had to think of an alternative, fast! Luckily I had spotted this black skirt on Facebook from a shop in Cork called 'Lisa'. I have to be truthful when I say that I felt anxious that I was too old for a lot of their stock but I was delighted to pick up this black faux leather skater skirt for only €10. The sales assistant I met and who found the skirt for me was very pleasant and helpful. Credit given where credit's due!

Tropical prints are everywhere for SS/13 as they tie in with both the 'Secret Garden' and '70s' Summers looks. This top is from French label Sandro (available in Brown Thomas Cork) and won't be for every body shape due to the 'box' or 'square fit'. Be sure to make your lower half streamline so as to balance your frame. This can be achieved with skinny jeans or bare legs with heels like I've demonstrated. I finished the outfit with these neon pink heels from Kurt Geiger (ASOS) along with these 'rabbit' ankle socks I bought yesterday.

Socks: Topshop (€5)

I really don't know what came over me in Topshop but I thought that pairing these socks and shoes together would be such a fun fashion statement and look! I think I pulled it off? Let me know what you think?

The show itself was spectacular, and I was blown away but the talent and artistry of the work on the runway. Part of me what raring to sign up for a course when the final curtain dropped as they run one day a week part time courses but I'll have to assess my own creativity and sowing skills before I commit to anything! My 'one to watch' award definitely goes to third year student Deirdre Collins from Clonakilty who won an award on the night. Deirdre has previously won in both national and international competitions and has even designed the uniforms of the stewards of the staff of the 02 arena in Dublin. Deirdre's celebrity fans include designer extraordinaire Paco Rabanne who previously stated that he wished he had designed her pieces himself as they were the haute of couture! Watch this space!

I'm off to my friend's birthday tonight and then must reply to a hundred emails tomorrow! Be sure to pick up the newest issue of Xpose magazine which I am featured in this month (Ireland only). I will do a complete outfit and behind the shoot feature on it next week!

Hope you're all having a fabulous bank holiday!
Until next time ducklings,
Love Vera Xx
